Saint Paddy

The O’Connell Clan Coat of Arms

Most people ask if I am Irish even with a name like James O’Connell. Perhaps if I went by Shamus, it would be more obvious but I doubt it. My Irish heritage has always been a source of pride for me. Each St. Patrick’s Day I eat corned beef and cabbage and reflect on the history of the holiday. Fortunately I am married to an incredible woman who has learned how to make corned beef and cabbage that would make any O’Connell proud. We are all fortunate that we live in a time when we can learn about our holidays.

Saint Patrick was a missionary to Ireland who had a heart for the Irish, a passion for evangelism, and the courage to follow his destiny. St. Patrick’s Day has become synonymous with beer, all things green, and Irish pride. It should be a holy reminder that we are all called, like Saint Patrick, to reach the lost. Like a missionary, we must be willing to go to where the lost are and reach them where they live.

Name five people you know need Jesus. Pray for them everyday. Reach out and be a friend. And wait for God to provide the right opportunity to share your story and ask them if they want to know Jesus.

Name.

Pray.

Friend.

Opportunity.

Story.

Ask.
